When The World’s Too Noisy, What Are Your Options?

When The World’s Too Noisy, What Are Your Options?

When the world is too noisy and you start to feel overwhelmed, you have to think about how you are going to handle it.
Are there things that you can do to help reduce the noise that’s around you?
You might think this isn’t a big deal for those of you who aren’t affected by too much ‘noise’, but it affects all of us at some point or another.
We’re always immersed in a certain environment, whether it’s amplified through headphones, speakers, or simply everywhere we go.
The noise we’re trying to get away from can be anything from other people talking, loud music, traffic, construction, dogs barking, etc – they act as distractions which makes it hard for us to get into the deep level of focus we need to be able to concentrate on our work.
When you add these external distractions up over time, they affect your productivity levels.
That said, maybe it’s time for you to really think about ways you can cut down on or eliminate all the noise and distraction in your life so that you can focus your attention on what needs to get done.
So, next time you want to get stuff done and you can’t because of the noise, follow these tips;

Find your happy spot

Sometimes it feels like the world is too noisy, and I don’t mean just literally, but figuratively as well.
Tiny distractions, constant worry about what others think, little things that pile up until we feel overwhelmed.
It’s getting harder to find a place to just be quiet with our thoughts. But it’s important to have a “happy spot” where you can go to just be with yourself in silence.
In fact, every successful person has one (or more) happy spots. Some of them meditate, some pray. Others read or listen to music or exercise.
Your happy spot could be reading a book on the beach or sitting in your backyard at night looking at the stars. It’s important to note that your happy place isn’t limited to a specific physical location.
It may be a great coffee shop to get work done or the corner of your bedroom where the sun shines through the window in the morning.
The key is finding something that works for you and then going there often enough to make it habitual.
For me, my happy spot is definitely at home in my bedroom with all of my gadgets turned off and no one else around (other than my wife).
It sounds weird but I love being there in the morning when I wake up as I’m drinking coffee and listening to music while watching the sunrise (not while writing this blog post).
There is nothing like that quiet moment before the noise starts again after a few hours of peace.

Mind your surroundings

I know that many of you are a little bit annoyed when someone is speaking loudly on the phone or having a conversation nearby.
If you are working hard on something and your concentration is broken by noise, you often feel irritated. I have been in that situation many times.
I actually don’t mind if someone is just talking to me personally if I can hear what they are saying, but I really hate it when someone talks loudly on the phone next to me for example.
As much as possible, try to avoid loud and noisy situations because it is really stressful when you have to deal with them daily.
If there is something you can do about it, try to speak more quietly and if possible be mindful of other people who might be around you.

Cut yourself off from the ‘noise’

Noise pollution is a common problem in big cities, but it can also happen in smaller towns. You might find that there is always a lot of traffic noise, or the neighbours next door are always playing loud music and you can hear them through the walls.
When you are unable to escape the noise, it can have a negative effect on your health, your job performance and your family life.
If there is too much noise around you, try to cut yourself off from it. If you live in a busy area, try and create some peace and quiet by using earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones while you are trying to sleep or relax. If you live near noisy neighbours, see if they can turn their music down when it bothers you.
Noise pollution can affect your sleeping patterns so if this is a problem for you try and get an earlier night’s sleep so that you do not feel tired during the day.
If you find that there is always too much noise around you at work, try changing jobs so that there is more peace and quiet where you work.

Consider noise-canceling earplugs

High fidelity earplugs are an absolute necessity if you want to protect yourself from the harmful effects of a loud environment.
There is no way around it. If you’re in a place with an extremely high volume, you’re going to experience hearing loss and other damage unless you take precautions. In fact, some of the things you think are protecting your ears from noise may actually be hurting them.
Noise-canceling earplugs are great for situations when the background noise might be too loud. As you can imagine, earplugs can be very beneficial in a place where there are many people, like a concert or a sporting event. But they’re not just for music or sporting events.
These noise-cancelling earplugs are a great way to combat the effects of loud noise. Think of them as “volume controls” for your ears. They reduce volume without affecting frequency or quality.
Tinnitus is a medical term for ringing in the ears. It is often caused by excessive noise exposure, which can cause abnormal nerve sensitivity and result in the perception of ringing, buzzing, or other sounds. The most common cause of tinnitus is hearing loss, but other causes include ear infections, medications, and head and neck trauma.
Noise-cancelling earplugs are effective at reducing noise levels and protecting you from experiencing hearing damage due to too much noise. Not only do they protect your hearing, but they also help improve communication with others via microphones built into the earplugs.
